ABOUT ME

I'm Sakura. I've taught Japanese at a bilingual preschool in New York for 6 years. For the last 6 years, I've been teaching Japanese to children from preschool to high school age online. I have also been organizing summer camp in Japan. Teaching is my passion and I enjoy every moment working with children.

FOLLOW ME

We are currently house hunting in Dallas suburb, Texas. Due to the move, online Japanese class will resume in the third week of September. I apologize for any inconveniences. Although, I might be able to fit some private classes in the second week of September. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

For group lessons, I’m planning to resume on the 14th of September. I will share the flyer here at the beginning of September.

Camp Sakura 2025 highlights

This year, we intentionally created a more relaxed schedule, hoping to deepen the connections between the children. Personally, I’ve also become more aware that spending time with these rapidly growing kids is something precious and not permanent, so I wanted to take the time to really talk with them.

As a result, I heard some kids say things like, “This year, I was able to become much closer with everyone. It was great.” We also had meaningful discussions about the camp itself, which made me really happy.

Meeting the kids who joined for the first time this year was also such a joy. It felt like a fresh new breeze had blown in, and I truly hope to keep growing Camp Sakura—just like a living, evolving being—together with everyone.

We always notify returning campers first in January or early February. I will let you know if there are opening spots after that.

It’s TOMORROW! Are you ready for Camp Sakura 2025?

People sometimes ask me, “Why do you run this camp?”

There are many reasons.

To give kids opportunities to improve their language skills, to help them enjoy their summer, to let them have a variety of experiences.

But especially in today’s unstable world, I think becoming friends with someone from another country on a personal level is a truly valuable experience.

We tend to talk in broad terms like “America is…” or “Japan is…” — but in those moments, if a child can think, “But wasn’t Ms. ___ from America like this? I want to learn more about the country she lives in,” then it becomes a chance to deepen mutual understanding.

That, more than anything, is the biggest reason.

Four more days till Camp Sakura 2025!

We’ll be camping at Mt. Tsukuba. Here is a little introduction about this beautiful place.

Mount Tsukuba (筑波山) is a scenic mountain located in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Known for its distinctive double peaks—Nyotai-san (877 m) and Nantai-san (871 m)—it is often called “the purple mountain” due to its changing colors at sunrise and sunset. Unlike Japan’s volcanic mountains, Mt. Tsukuba is formed from granite and gabbro. It’s famous for beautiful views, seasonal flowers, and hiking trails, and it’s also considered a sacred site with ancient shrines, especially Tsukubasan Shrine. On clear days, visitors can see Tokyo and even Mt. Fuji from its summit.
